good experience fantastic interior
outside appearance ,but do not let that put you off. Where else can you stay in a previous brothel .amazing rooms
Great (and unusual) place with wonderful hosts!
We've never before stayed in a former brothel (with all the decor still intact, including live peacocks on the roof!), so it was quite an experience. The room and the bathroom were large and very clean, all the facilities excellent, and the hosts most caring --- fantastic breakfast included! One should bear in mind, though, that the B&B is literally in the middle of the desert, 30 miles drive to the nearest gas station/dinner. A great base to explore the Death Valley (and look at the stars at night)!
The shady lady awaits you...
The unique thing about the shady lady is the mix between the tackiness of the rooms (it used to be a brothel), the remoteness of its location (the nearest neighbour is probably 30 miles away, see picture, the 'Shady Lady' is one of the dots you see in the distance) and the atmosphere of the whole place. You can do really nice, uncharted walks into the nearby mountains (just step out of your room and start walking), and it's close enough to Death Valley to plan your excursions from there. In addition, Paul, the owner is very friendly and accomodating. It might not be everybody's cup of tea, but if you want something 'different', this one comes highly recommended.

Great place to stay!!!
The property is far from gas stations. You have to be looking for the sign or you may miss the turn off.
The staff was wonderful. Dave and Paul are both gracious hosts and great cooks. They made breakfast and dinner to order. I mean large portions, excellently prepared, deliciously seasoned, and prepared with care. The rooms were beautifully designed, clean and comfortable.
Very clean, very friendly staff, good advices, nice breakfast.
not going there again
It was tacky, tacky, tacky! A Manufactured house with 2 trailers running parallel to each other with the manufactured trailer in the middle. It formed a U shape. Real Classy! Peacock poop everywhere. You have to be careful where you stepped. Couldn't get out of there fast enough!
This place is in the MIDDLE of NOWHERE! Junky entrance with 2 old broken down trailers, old wrecked cars about 8 or 9. Didn't have any muffins or juice or yogurt for breakfast. Got pound cake with jam on it for breakfast. No water when we arrived due to frozen pipes. I wondered if I was going to be another Janet Leigh in the movie "Psycho". Oh, I almost forgot. A male customer came looking for some "action"! I should have figured out the name "Shady Lady" gives a "not so good connotation!
Owner and staff very friendly. Fun place. Met expectations, exactly as advertised. Once Scotty’s Junction Road is re-opened, the access to Death Valley will be very easy to the Northern portion of the Park.
Nice place to stay to rest after visiting the death valley
The owners are really kind, it s fun to stay in a former brothel.
A unique and unmissable experience
It's about 1/2 hour north of Beatty, and about 1 1/2 hours from central Death Valley. This is not their fault, it's just that there are few places to stay in or near Death Valley.
Paul & Dave were so helpful, providing a great place to stay and excellent food. They even upgraded us to a room with a hilarious red heart-shaped jacuzzi. We loved Shady Lady.
Great Property With Shady Past
Property is 30 miles from restaurants and fuel; it's not the owner's fault but this should be more prominently disclosed in the listing to avoid a round-trip to Beatty. Exterior surroundings of the property (junked vehicles, decrepit RV trailers) leave a poor first impression.
"All-nighter" cabin was large with a comfortable bed and lots of character. Very quiet and private. Good breakfast. Nice view, especially when the sun comes up over the hills. Peacocks everywhere. Well signposted from the I-95.
Far better than the average motel, make an extra effort to stay there
Give careful directions on the web site, I almost missed it on our first visit
The breakfast was made to order and they even served us an evening meal.
Would stay again. Anxious to see repairs & history captured for this unique stay.
Would like to see it in spring.
How different. Will go back again, hope Paul will get it back to a historical glory.
The history, the decor, the staff friendliness.
Nice host, good location once Scottys Castle Road is open again. Ideal for star gazing since you're far from any artificial light sources
Don't judge a book by it's cover. Same goes here when you drive up it doesn't impress you but it does after that. Staff and total place was great.
